Fibromyalgia Pain

If you suffer from Fibromyalgia, chances are you have been frustrated to say the least.  Not to mention the fact that you feel terrible just about every day.  Fibromyalgia, in my opinion, describes multiple systems of the body malfunctioning on a daily basis.  These malfunctioning systems create the signs and symptoms you experience daily.  This condition is poorly understood by most healthcare providers.  We understand Fibromyalgia better than most, and successfully treat Fibromyalgia every day in our clinic.

The first, and perhaps the most important, aspect of Fibromyalgia to understand is that it affects multiple systems of the body.  Research of thousands of Fibromyalgia patients revealed common signs and symptoms among them.  These common signs and symptoms involve the Nervous System, Endocrine System,  Immune System, Digestive System, and Musculo-Skeletal systems.  To better understand why you haven’t gotten much help from your doctors is actually quite simple.  Healthcare today is made up of specialists.  These specialists only really know one system of the body at best. So you go from one specialist to another with zero communication between them.  All of a sudden you’re taking 10-15 medications, prescribed by multiple specialists,  just trying to manage symptoms. What you really need is a doctor who is well-educated in all of these systems.  Understanding the function of all of these systems enables us to properly pull all of the pieces of the puzzle together to effectively test them via blood, saliva, or stool testing.   We then apply very natural, scientific treatments to correct the function of these malfunctioning systems.  The following paragraph will explain a bit more about these systems. (Please refer to my education/clinical background by clicking on About Us.)

The Endocrine System is made of glands that secrete very important messengers called hormones.  The major glands affected with Fibromyalgia are the Thyroid and Adrenal glands.  Thyroid dysfunction is one of the most misdiagnosed and mistreated conditions on the planet today.  In short, there are 6 patterns of thyroid dysfunction plus auto-immune thyroid called Hashimoto’s disease.  Of these, only one will respond to medication, and it is typically less than 10% of all thyroid sufferers!  Fibromyalgia symptoms very closely resemble Thyroid conditions. You can click on Thyroid Conditions to read more about this. The adrenal glands secrete cortisol and become very active during times of stress.  When cortisol is high, as seen in almost every Fibro patient I examine, it can affect health in a very serious way.  These cortisol shifts dramatically affect the way you process glucose, will increase estrogen levels and decrease progesterone levels, and weaken your immune system among many others.  We thoroughly test both glands prior to treatment.  Chances are that even if they have been tested, they were tested improperly!

The immune system is a bit more complex.  Most of my Fibromyalgia sufferers have a diagnosed auto-immune condition or one that hasn’t been diagnosed yet.  Make no mistake, most have an auto-immune condition.  I liken an auto-immune condition to having the flu every day.  The way you feel when you have the flu is due to your body attacking a virus.  An auto-immune condition makes you feel lousy because your body is constantly on the attack.  It is vital to control the auto-immune response.  We can do that fairly easily.  Most healthcare providers never even consider doing this.  In fact, during treatment we retest the antibodies that were positive initially, and with most can get these back to normal ranges.  One of the most important things we do to help Fibromyalgia patients involves correctly controlling the immune system.

There has been an abundance of research over the past several years on the Central Nervous System and the connection to Fibromyalgia.  I highly recommend you click on Brain-Based Therapy (BBT) to read more about the misfiring that occurs in the brain and the symptoms it can cause. The Nervous System is yet another system that must be fixed in order to correct Fibromyalgia.

The Digestive System is yet another system not working correctly with Fibromyalgia.  Due to malfunctioning thyroid and adrenal glands, gut function becomes very slow, and a decrease in hydrochloric acid occurs.  This will cause an increase in gut infections, IBS, gastric reflux, leaky gut, and an increase in food sensitivities, to name a few.  It becomes important to correct thyroid and adrenal function to help the digestive system.  It may also become important to eliminate things like gluten, dairy, and soy as well.  When proteins from these foods leak through the gut, the body does not recognize them and will attack.  This is also a reason you could feel like you have the flu.  It is not much different than the body attacking a virus.  An immune attack produces an incredible amount of INFLAMMATION!

Finally, the Musculo-Skeletal System becomes involved with Fibromyalgia.  It has been my experience that neck and back pain, joint pain, tendon and ligament pain, and muscle pain can all be the result of everything discussed to this point.  The other malfunctioning systems actually cause the musculo-skeletal system symptoms.  In short, if we correct spinal biomechanics and strengthen weak core muscles, as well as fix the other systems we spoke about, these musculo-skeletal pains will diminish dramatically or go away all together.  The symptoms are simply a byproduct of poor function.

I have tried to give you a basic understanding of the complexity of treating Fibromyalgia.  You absolutely need a healthcare provider who has advanced knowledge of these systems, knows how to do thorough testing of every system, and then has proven protocols to treat these.  I don’t feel as though I treat Fibromyagia,  I treat what I find is wrong.  When I do this, health and quality of life is restored.

Have you suffered with Fibromyalgia symptoms for a few months, a few years, or too many years to mention? Many may suffer only minor symptoms, while others (perhaps you or a loved one) feel the debilitating effects of Fibromyalgia and are kept from participating in their life, making even simple daily activities almost impossible.

“I was tested but many, many doctors, all who told me that I had fibromyalgia and put me on more and more drugs. In only 5 weeks of treatment, I am now doing housework, driving and going for daily walks…..all what I could not previously do. I am also off almost all of my pain medication.   Thank you!” -Carol E-

How Does This Work?

You are most likely starting to wonder “What is the treatment going to be like?” I can tell you from personal experience and from watching patients and staff participate in the treatments, that they are beneficial and enjoyable.

“I was in so much pain that could not perform my daily activities. Everything I did caused pain. I was told by doctors to get out and exercise and that it was all in my head.   I now feel so much better and I can now even bowl again.” – Lois L.-

When it started, it was like kidney stone pain, like when I lay down my back felt like it would break in half. I had pain and stiffness in my legs and my neck. After my second child everything started to get worse. I got multiple MRIs, every test under the sun, eight vials of blood from my arm. Nothing was coming up. One doctor said I have a “Lying disease.” I couldn’t get out of bed, and I felt like a 90-year-old woman. I went to one chiropractor to get an adjustment and later that day when I went to the beach I couldn’t move from the neck down I was in so much pain. I had every anti-depressant or pain killer that one could get for fibromyalgia. I would rather have dug my own grave and jumped in it than to live another day that way. In 2 months time, I feel a good percentage better, and I’m off of every single drug that I was taking. Anybody that has anything fibro-related, pain, fatigue, dizziness, you have to get your hands on them. I believed in you from the minute I left the office. Your dedication and how well you generally care about people, it shows; you help people, you’ve helped me. I am forever grateful.” – Michelle H-
